REC4ALL COED SOFTBALL RULES

Basic Rules - 10v10 COED SOFTBALL

Be kind to your fellow players, officials, and yourself! 10 players on field (6 men max)

Minimum to play (6 players)

1 new ball used to start every game (Evil Trump .44/375)

Bats not provided by the league (Women may use any bat. Men must use either ASA single wall or

wooden bats)

Gloves are not provided

Plastic cleats / athletic shoes only (no metal cleats, no barefeet, etc)

Pitches should be thrown between 6 ft. (min) to 12 ft. (max) measured from the ground

If the ball is between the 6’ to 12’ range and hits home plate or the strike mat, then it is a

strike

All players (even subs) MUST sign a liability waiver and release prior to playing. Failure to

comply will result in immediate removal from the game.

Batting

At the beginning of each game both teams must submit a line-up to the umpire All batters will start

with a 0-1 count

With 2 strikes: 1 foul ball, the next contact must be in fair territory or batter is automatically

out

No more than 3 men may bat in a row (this includes going from the bottom of the line-up back to the

top of the order)

If a male batter walks with a female batter on deck, the female batter may CHOOSE TO ALSO WALK OR

TAKE THE AT-BAT. Female batter must declare before she enters the batter’s box. If a female batter

chooses to hit, male batter stays at first base

NO bunting-bunts are a foul ball (multiple bunt attempts by a player or team may result in batter

being called out at ump’s discretion)

Innings

7 innings or 70 minutes. Some games may run short on time while others may run longer. Max. 7 runs

can be scored per inning (EXCEPT the last inning – no limit)

Games CAN end in a tie during the regular season.

Base Running

Double First Base: on a ball hit to the infield: first baseman gets the white base, baserunner gets

orange safety base.

DON’T TOUCH HOME: force out at home plate. Base runner should run through the secondary home plate

area. An extra base will mark where the runner should run through. Catcher must step on home for an

out before runner crosses secondary home plate.

Base runners repeatedly touching home may be called out (ump’s discretion)

Commitment line between Third and Home: if a runner passes the commitment line (about ½ way between

third and home, they must continue home. If they pass the line, stop, and retreat to third base,

they will be called out automatically.

Sliding is ALLOWED. Any slide that results in excessive contact with defensive player will result

in runner being called out (ump’s discretion)

NO stealing, runners CANNOT leave his/her base until the pitched ball is hit. NO pick off attempts

Ball is DEAD on a pitch once it hits the ground (or a player)

Overthrow rule: If the ball is deemed out of play or unplayable, ALL runners are awarded 1 base

from the base LAST possessed, upon release of the throw, if the ball is OVERTHROWN and REMAINS in

play, the game continues.

Courtesy Runner: If a player is injured, the team may use a courtesy runner. Must be the same

gender as the player who is injured.

PLAYOFFS ONLY: An extra inning will be played in the event of a tie game. International Tie-Breaker

will be used: player who made the last out of the previous inning will start at second base in each

half inning. Weather Related Game Cancellation: We make all final decisions about weather 2 hours

before game time. Please check emails and website throughout the day for all notifications. At

certain times, Marin County Parks will shut down the fields for varying reasons despite weather

conditions we would normally play in. These decisions are out of our control and we must abide by

the County Park’s decision. Also be aware, if we do rain out a game we will make up that week later

in the season. If we have more than 2 rain outs during the season, we will do our best to make

those games up, but cannot guarantee more than 2 made up rain outs.

Forfeits Policy:

Teams without the minimum number of players will forfeit after 10 minutes from their designated

start time. If your team forfeits a game during the season, you MUST do the following to not be

penalized: Email teamrec4all@gmail.com a MINIMUM one hour prior to the first game of the day.

Example: Your game is at 12:30 pm, but the league’s first game is at 10:00 am. Your email must be

sent by 9:00 am at the LATEST. Yes, you will be penalized for a 59-minute notice.

● The subject of the email must be “Forfeit - (insert team name and game time)” Example: “Forfeit

- Sip n Slide 12:30pm”

If you do not do these to things you will be penalized:

● First Offense – Warning

● Second Offense - You are Disqualified from Playoffs

● Third Offense – You are removed from the league without a refund

All rules not listed here will default to ASA High School rules. All Umpire calls on the field are

FINAL.

SPRING 2024 AMENDED RULES

Rec4All has included the following rules based on league team manager feedback. Amended on 4/5/24.

1. Substitute Players: Teams MAY request for substitute players periodically throughout the

regular season. Teams MAY NOT request substitute players during playoffs or championship games. All

substitute players must be declared to the opposing team prior to the game start. Teams may request

a maximum of two (2) players, (1) male and (1) female. Substitute players are eligible to play in

the following positions; Catcher, 1st Base, 2nd Base, Right Field. Substitute players are eligible

to bat in the 2nd-to-last or last batter position. ALL substitute players MUST be league registered

players AND have completed and signed the Rec4All Participant Agreement Form (i.e., Player

Liability Waiver).

2. Outfield Line: All outfielder players must stand behind an outfield line, which is marked via

outfield cones, when a female is batting. Once a ball is hit/ in play, outfielders may move in

front of the line.

3. Line Drives (To Pitcher): Any Batter who hits a ball directly back to the Pitcher, and the

Official deems it to be “targeting”, will be called OUT.

4. Courtesy Runner: If a player is injured, the team may use a courtesy runner. Must be the same

gender as the player who is injured. Teams may use a maximum of two (2) courtesy runners throughout

an inning. (I.e., a person who uses a courtesy runner in an inning will be allowed to use the same

courtesy runner if he/she gets on base multiple times in that same inning. That

would be considered one (1) courtesy runner.)
